Its 8:30 a.m. and my alarm is blaring, but I’ve been awake for hours, too nervous about my new internship to sleep. I get ready and prepare myself for the day ahead of me. 9:30 a.m., I begin the 20 plus minute drive to Chesterfield, thoughts swirling in my head about what I’m about to jump into and the people I’m about to encounter. Will it be like my last internship? Will I dread going to work everyday, counting the seconds that slowly tick past? Who’s the other intern; will it be some whacko or someone I can actually get along with? Or will I actually like thisexperiential marketing internship and the people I’m working with? 9:51 a.m. I walk in the door at Pro Motion Inc.
9:55 a.m., I meet the other intern who, to my pleasant surprise, is a fellow St. Louis University Billiken and a friendly face I recognize from class. ‘Hmm maybe this won’t be so bad after all” I think to myself. 10:00 a.m., the day officially begins; training, meeting everyone in the office, learning aboutguerrilla marketing, field marketing, mobile vehicle tours and my favorite part of the day, the Pro Motion Welcome Lunch. I knew this internship was going to be different when all of us were swapping stories and sharing nicknames on the first day. I felt like I had been working with theseevent coordinators for years, more comfortable in the first few hours than I had been all last summer at my past internship.
2:30 p.m., I am handed a Disney t-shirt and Mickey Mouse ears. I’m officially 110% sold on this event promotions internship. What more could I ask for? But wait, that’s not all, an Energizer Energi To Go portable cell-phone charger? Are you kidding me? Is this a dream? Did I just win the marketing promotions internship jackpot? I think so.
5:00 p.m., my crazy, hectic, fun first day comes winding down to an end. How was I feeling about it? Is love too strong of a word to use on a first date? I LOVED it, and have loved it every single day. My friends are already sick of me talking about how much I love this place and the people I work with and how everyday when I say I’m going to “work” I laugh at myself because I can only hope that everyone can be as lucky as I am to find an internship that they truly love. Besides the Disney gear, the people here at Pro Motion were what really sold me, they’re what makes coming to this place an adventure instead of a chore. Not only am I learning more than I could ever hope about everything in the event marketing world fromproduct sampling to buzz marketing and everything in between, I’m never bored and if it’s a really good day I’ll have a side cramp from laughing so much. And I’ll let you in on a little secret; they’re all really good days.
