What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Do you turn off your old-school alarm clock, turn on the news to check the weather, grab your laptop to send an email?

No – you pull out your smartphone.

We may not want to admit it, but most of us are addicted to our devices. Scary, right?

Now more than ever, marketers must find new cutting-edge techniques to gain the limited attention span of the growing smart-phone using community. Technology is evolving daily. So, what can you do to better position yourself in the constantly evolving market?

Who better to ask than millennials – they represent the largest percentage of smart phone users. I polled several college friends – all of whom cannot live without their iPhone.

The question: What is the most creative smart-phone related technique you believe marketers can use to better position themselves in today’s evolving market?

Facebook Offers –

“I can never resist a Facebook offer. For example, Benefit Cosmetics brought their new brow products to the market in creative way using Facebook. Before they released their new product, they gave their consumers a way to earn their products for free. All the consumer had to do was get their friends to sign up. Once the consumer had a certain number of people signed up from their user-specific link, they received a new brow product absolutely free. This created a domino effect, as it led many people who may have never heard of their new brow products to learn about them through Facebook!”

– Casey M, St. Louis, MO

Innovative Apps –

“I would love to see a company come out with an app that had an aesthetically pleasing planner. Something useful that will remind me of the brand every time I use it. It could be colorful, and well laid out like a traditional paper planner. They could add their own branding, which would be a great way for millennials to stay organized, while also being exposed to the brand.”

– Ashley W, Houston, TX

“Uber! They saw a need, and changed the way people get around, all through the creation of an app.”

– Tyler S., Dallas, TX

Millennials’ opinions can be a great tool when trying to target the growing population of smartphone users. It all comes down to what marketing trends you want to target, and what direction you want to see your business go in the future.
